Fuzhi / Taoist Talisman
A Fuzhi is traditionally understood as a medium between human intention and the larger spiritual order. In modern language, you can think of it as a sacred symbol, a ritual reminder, and an ancient form of intention-setting.
It is not meant to be viewed as just a piece of paper. In Taoist practice, the yellow paper is associated with earth, order, and divine presence, while the red writing is traditionally made with cinnabar, a mineral long regarded as carrying strong yang energy.
The specific symbols are drawn to ask for protection and to support balance around a person or space. For Western users, the closest psychological parallel may be a meaningful ritual object: something that helps anchor attention, mark intention, and create a calmer relationship with uncertainty.

The talisman may be prepared with one of four wishes.

辟邪 / Warding Off Evil

保平安 / Safety
For peace, steadiness, and the wish to move through life safely.

How to keep it

Do not open it unnecessarily.
Please keep the folded talisman intact and minimize direct handling. This helps preserve both the paper and the ritual sense of the object.

Choose a clean placement.
You may keep it in your wallet, near your bedside, or under your pillow. Avoid dirty or cluttered places, water, stepping on it, or placing it where it may be damaged.

Return it by fire when needed.
If the talisman becomes damaged or you no longer wish to keep it, do not throw it into the trash. Traditionally, it is returned by burning it respectfully with a match, not a lighter.
